Diary of a tired man

Do you even run Bro?

I used to. I used to run alot. Half marathons mainly. Those were my jam. I spent alot of time logging kms. And then I stopped. I’m not sure why. I had a child, and maybe my mindset shifted after that. I was busy trying to juggle poor sleep, a family life, and a career and figured being tired all the time was enough. Who needs to run?

It turns out I did. I started finding my way back to it around December of 2020. My son was a bit older and for the most part sleeps through the night. I began by joining a few virtual races (due to COVID-19). 5km, and 10km. And so it began.

I am pushing for a big year this year. Maybe biting off more than I can chew. But that’s always been my style. It started out with a project of mine, running a marathon for my 40th birthday in May, but it has grown to be my biggest running years to date.

After all the time and effort spent training for the marathon, I felt lost in weeks that followed and needed something to fill the void. I had logged about 600km running for the year up to the time of the marathon.

Summer came and I winded down the running in favor of cycling or beer drinking with friends. I still would get out and ramble out 5’s and 10’s here and there, but no real commitment. I needed something to inspire me. Glancing at my Strava a few weeks ago I had just shy of 700km running year to date. I wondered, “could I get 1000km by December 31st?”

So here I am, legs moving again. I have roughly 300km to go and about 2 and a half months to do it. I guess I am welcoming myself to rainy west coast weather running.

What am I getting myself in to?

Cheers
