Goals goals goals

Hey folks. With weather shifting from summers easy going warm nights to cooler darker and damper conditions, it seems like the natural time that people start winding down from their endeavors. Finishing off racing seasons and tapering down to a break or at least a subtle shoulder season maintenance schedule.

50 days from the end of the year(ish). Where’s everyone at? Boxes checked? New goals taking over from previous ones?

Myself? Well I tackled some big ones this year. Both my first and second ultra marathon in the books. Both unsupported, unofficial. And I surpassed my running distance goal for the year a few weeks ago. So I have now challenged myself to tackle next year’s goal by the end of December. A lofty additional 250km more than I set out for, but that lines up new ideas for next year.

Goals. They are intentional. They are tackled sometimes very meticulously, sometimes not, and sometimes we pivot from them in the face of new ideas, goals, or challenges. All of which are ok.

I think the importance is the desire to continue to find new goals, big or small. A new PR, a distance goal, a first 5k run. Whatever it is. Seizing an idea and seeing it through. That’s the win. Whether it’s what was intended so long ago or just last week. It is about being intentional, and the drive to pursue something.

For me, I’m tying off a few more running races and then will focus on an already busy 2024 season.

I hope everyone is out there crushing their goals for the year. We’re in the final push, so lace up the boot straps and gettr done!
